I grew up sitting in front of our small, antenna’d tv watching fuzzy runway shows in the 80’s and 90’s. The way the fabric moved and bounced as the models glided down the runway was an experience I didn’t know I needed. I would be so disappointed when I would turn the tv nob like 50 times-as if it were some sort of magic dial-trying to find my models and all I would see were cartoons & novelas.

We lived in a small duplex with a backyard and small garage where my dad used to upholster classic cars and lowriders for shows n’ things. I remember it used to open up to an alley. Some days I’d sit back there with him mesmerized with the way he’d so intently be cutting, sewing, stuffing, pulling and stretching the leather. He used to make me little girl leather skirts and purses; even a small couch one time. The smell of leather was so strong it almost commanded me to pay attention to what he was doing.

Decades in the beauty industry later I made the bold decision to start a legacy lifestyle brand that embodies my folks’ story of resilience and beauty.

The word “luchona” comes from a place of struggle. It is not pretty. However, because there is something remarkably satisfying about creating through adversity, it is a word that should be revered and celebrated.

I created LUCHONA for that little girl sitting in front of the tv dreaming of all the pretty things and to remind us that the uphill battle deserves a little rest, self-care and a few frills here and there.
